PhD Lunch Club
LH Small Common Room
Join us for the next PhD lunch club in June, exploring dementia policies in Caribbean Communities.
Rianna Patterson is a dementia activist and PhD student studying the feasibility of technology and dementia care in marginalised communities. She is the founder of the Dominica Dementia Foundation, a youth-led dementia charity that was founded at 18 in memory of her grandfather with dementia in Dominica. Rianna has been a voice for older people in forums such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. She was one of the principal authors and researchers on the ‘Dementia in the Commonwealth’ report that was launched by the Commonwealth Ageing Association (CommonAge) at the International Dementia Conference in Australia. Her contributions to this report included providing autobiological data from young people’s contributions in several Commonwealth countries on dementia advocacy as well as local government involvement in this field. Rianna is also the film director of “Dementia: The Island Journey” which explores key themes on holistic practices, dementia and healthy ageing in the Caribbean.
