Mental Health Awareness Week: Uncovering Psychotherapy

Churchill Room

Have you ever wondered what a session of psychotherapy might look like? What the therapist might ask you or draw from the things you say? Then join us for this talk with clinical psychologist and GC-alumnus Dr Kenny Chiu and GC-member and assistant psychologist Lisa von Glahn. They will tell us more about what to expect in a therapeutic session, which different types of therapies there are and much more about all the things you always wanted to know about psychotherapy.

Dr Kenny Chiu is an alumni of Goodenough College and works as a Clinical Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of East Anglia ClinPsyD programme. After graduating from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), he co-founded Beigi and Chiu Clinical Psychology Ltd, a London-based clinic that provides medico-legal assessment, neurocognitive assessment, and media risk assessment. Prior to his doctoral clinical training, Kenny was a research fellow at Yale Child Study Centre, Yale University, and a visiting scholar at Wadham College, University of Oxford. Kenny is a clinical academic who conducts research on growth mindset, social anxiety, trauma, suicidality, and autism.

Lisa von Glahn is a GC-member and MSc student in clinical psychology at the University of Trier in Germany. She recently joined Beigi & Chiu Clinical Psychology for her placement and is currently finishing her master’s thesis for which she conducted research in the field of clinical psychology/psychobiology looking at the satisfaction in intimate relationships throughout the menstrual cycle. As part of her placement at Beigi & Chiu she is also assisting the Baobab Centre For Young Survivors in Exile with their programme evaluation and research.
