EDI Peer Support

LH Small Common Room

Goodenough College Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Peer Support Programme

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) related concerns, such as racism and discrimination experienced by Members from all walks of life, can make Members' experiences in all aspects of learning, life, and well-being particularly challenging and are often an unaddressed topic. Members going through challenging times need to have access to peer support and help, regardless of the topic. This will help Members to feel understood and supported.

The Members’ Council of Goodenough College is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all members feel valued, respected, and supported. To uphold our commitment to EDI principles and ensure Members have access to support and resources, we have established this EDI Peer Support Programme. This Programme is available to all Members of Goodenough College who experience or witness any EDI-related issues. We hope to make every Member feel heard, cared for and supported, promoting a more inclusive and empathetic community environment.

Reports can be made through various channels:

a. Direct Email to Members’ Council EDI Chair:
edi.memberscouncil@goodenough.ac.uk

Members can report EDI-related issue directly to the Members’ Council EDI email, monitored by the EDI Chair on duty. This channel provides direct and prompt access to the EDI Chair, who can reach out in a timely manner to offer peer support and guidance for further action if necessary. E-Mails sent to this address will only be accessible to the EDI Chair and in case this position is not filled, or the EDI Chair is otherwise not able to address the issue, the Chair of the Members’ Council.

b. Goodenough College Members’ Council EDI Peer Support Reporting Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jlpMds8ukZxKhBS5AmbzSvsdXv56GDt5EpjYq_LrXvQ/edit?ts=674dc280

This reporting form is designed to provide a structured way for Members to report EDI-related incidents or offer suggestions for enhancing EDI aspects. This method helps identify areas for improvement and effective approaches within our community. The form can be submitted anonymously if preferred. For non-anonymous reports, the Members’ Council EDI Chair on duty will contact you for further support and assistance. In all cases, confidentiality is prioritised, with personal details known only to the Members’ Council EDI Chair, or if this position is not filled or otherwise unable to carry out their duties, the Chair of the Members Council.

What will happen next?

If you contact the Members’ Council EDI email and provide your contact information, the Members’ Council EDI Chair on duty will reach out and offer support and consultation. The primary focus is to provide emotional and psychological support and companionship. If needed, guidance and assistance for further help and action will be provided.

The EDI Peer Support Reporting Form will be monitored and checked regularly. If you submit the form and provide your contact information and express your willingness to be contacted, the EDI Chair on duty will reach out to offer the support and assistance.

For anonymous emails and reports, the Members’ Council EDI sector will not be able to contact the individual who submitted the report. However, the incidents and suggestions reported will be discussed in the Members’ Council meetings and, where appropriate, included in a report submitted to the College EDI Steering Group. This information will be used to inform and improve College EDI policies and practices.

What will happen to the information I have submitted?

Submitted information will be used to collate and reflect lived experience of College Members. The Members’ Council EDI Chair will compile EDI peer support report with recommendations to Members’ Council and the College’s EDI Steering Group annually. All reports will be anonymised, and any identifying details will be removed to protect individuals’ privacy.

Submitted information will be stored in its original format for one year. After one year, the original submission will be anonymised, and all personal data will be permanently deleted. Anonymised data will then be stored for future reporting and annual comparisons. The Members’ Council will take all reasonable steps to maintain your confidentiality. However, if a report indicates that someone is at serious risk of harm, it may not be possible to maintain confidentiality, and it will be necessary to inform College Management. If this is the case, a comprehensive risk assessment will be carried out, with the assistance of College management, before confidentiality is breached.

The Members’ Council of Goodenough College is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all members. By adhering to this EDI peer  support procedure, we aim to address concerns promptly, promote understanding and respect, and uphold our shared values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. We appreciate your feedback and commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive community within our College.
