Ramadan & Islamic Spirituality with Imam Mohammad Mahmoud OBE + Muslim Chaplaincy service
Churchill Room
Why do Muslims fast for an entire month? Do they not eat at all? How does this ancient tradition work? What is the spiritual significance of Ramadan to the Muslim faith? How can we support our fellow members on this journey? Would you like to try fasting? Or hear more about the basics of Islam from London's leading Muslim speaker?
To mark the beginning of Ramadan, the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, we’re excited to host Imam Mohammed Mahmoud OBE to our college. This is the first Imam visit of the year, and we hope to provide him a warm welcome from the full breadth of our diverse community. He is one of the foremost interfaith leaders in London and has served as the Senior Imam of the East London Mosque and the London Muslim Centre, the biggest mosque in London and among the most prominent in Europe. In addition to leading prayer and delivering Friday sermons, he provides religious guidance and classes, and engages in various outreach, charity, and interfaith projects. His outstanding courage during the Finsbury Park terror attack of 2017 was recognized around the world, and earned him the honorary title, Order of the British Empire.
This is an incredible opportunity for people of all backgrounds to learn more about the spiritual and intellectual dimensions of Ramadan, a basic tenet of the Islamic faith, one of the world's great religions with a growing following of 1.8 billion people, almost a quarter of the world's population.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience, and an opportunity for Muslim Members to have a one-on-one chaplaincy with the Imam about any matters they wish
This talk is hosted by the Goodenough Muslim Society with the Dean’s interfaith advisors, as part of the interfaith programming run by the Dean. Don't miss the chance to attend the LAST big event of this term!
