Veask Festival
Reception areas of LH and WG
Buddhists across the world celebrate Vesak in commemoration of the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Lord Buddha. Vesak is a religious as well as cultural festival in Sri Lanka and is celebrated on the day of the full moon in May. Many religious events and activities are organised around the country in celebration of the Vesak festival. Buddhists visit temples and offer flowers, light lamps and burn incense to pay homage to Lord Buddha. Many also engage in religious practices such as offering alms to monks and the poor, listening to sermons, meditation, and observing Sil (observing percepts of Buddhism). Apart from engaging in spiritual activities, Buddhists in Sri Lanka also decorates their houses, temples and public premises with religious artifacts. They make colourful Vesak lanterns, light buckets, and create displays made using light depicting life events of Lord Buddha.
The Sri Lankan Society at Goodenough will be organising some activities in celebration of the Vesak festival. All Goodenough members are welcome to help us organise these activities and take part in them.
