Guidance on Hosting Guests

The College management is happy for Members to invite friends, family and colleagues to visit. For everyone’s safety and security, you must meet your guest(s) at your House Reception, sign them into the visitors’ book, and escort them from the building when they depart.

With regard to overnight visitors, the maximum length of time a visitor may stay with a Member, in a room or flat, is two weeks (14 days). Members may host only one visitor for an overnight stay in a single room. There is no charge for having overnight visitors, who must be 18 years or older, but you are asked to hire a camp bed for them, costing £7.50 for the first night and £5 per night for additional nights.

Please apply to the Registrar or the Deputy Registrar if you wish to host a younger visitor, for example, a close family member.

Key Authorisation

Members wishing to have a visitor should submit their request via the Portal. You should do this at least 48 hours before they arrive. A spare key card will be issued by Reception after the request for a key has been approved by the House Administrators.

For security reasons, all guests have to be signed in with Reception. A friend/guest arriving at Reception already in possession of a Goodcard will be refused entry.

Key authorisation is only done while you are at the College. If you are away from the College and would like a friend or relative to stay in your room in your absence, you should submit a sublet form on the Portal and the College will issue a temporary card.

Camp Beds

A campbed is a comfortable folding bed with a mattress, supplied with a duvet, pillow, bedsheet, pillowcase and duvet cover. The bed is delivered to your room and removed at the end of the booking. Find out more.

Other Accommodation Options

If you have more than one visitor, or if your guest/s would like more space, privacy or comfort the College offers discounted rates at The Goodenough Hotel, London and for its Short-stay accommodation. Both of these College-owned businesses operate on a not-for-profit basis - with 100% of any profits donated to the College to help support running costs and deliver better services for Members.

The Hotel reservations team manages all short-stay accommodation, including the Hotel, sabbatical and Short-stay accommodation. Their office is at the Hotel (located at 23 Mecklenburgh Square) and is open from Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm. Outside these hours, you are welcome to email any enquiries to reservations@goodenough.ac.uk
